Late intrusion

3rd in hand, love all, pairs, average club oppo, not shooting

1NT P 2H P; 2S 3C ?

1NT is 12-14 and 2H is a RST. Partner can break with 4-card support. The two most sensible bids to me seem to be Pass or 3D - but you can only bid one of these at the table!

If they're average club oppo, I'm tempted to double. Couldn't bid first time but can second? Usually a twat.

However, if they're poor club oppo I wouldn't double as they'll probably make it, turning up with AKQxxxx in clubs and half a trick somewhere else which will undoubtedly fit with their partner.

So all told, I guess I'll Pass and respect partners bid.

3D is just plain stupid. Partner has every right to expect a massive hand opposite and a good diamond suit to boot.

I will sit back and wait for the "I agree with Gary, now!"

I think double ought to be for t/o here and 3D ought to be forcing (new suit at the 3 level).

Neither of these fill me with joy (I am worried that pd will leave the double in with a trump holding such as Qxx or Jxxx) so I pass - pd may still be able to compete to 3S when it's right to do so.

I now agree that 3D is wrong although H did not blame me for it at the time. Whoever said Pass got the answer right. It still did not account for what happened at the table though.

The lady who bid 3C had a 7 card suit and a 4 count - her partner had a 16 count. The bidding continued as follows:

1NT P 2H P; 2S 3C 3D 5C; 5S P P X; float (-1100)

For the record, they can make 4C.
