I couldn't agree more.
Transfer will get you something close to an average which is one-off in 2H (a few pairs went -2 though). My partner played in 1NT +3 for a resounding top.
I just didn't fancy the transfer on this one. I thought my QJ,Q & J would merge with whatever partner held to pick up 7 tricks.
Not sure what I'd do if I picked this hand up again! Depends whether I need an average, I suppose!

Transfer.
Do it every time and don't try to double guess. Alternatively, never do it and don't try to double guess.
Just be consistent. Invent a rule for when you transfer (based on point count or shape) and keep to it.
Personally, I always do. If 1NT makes and 2H sails 3 off, it doesn't mean it was the wrong choice, just unlucky.
